Southside ISD Cross Country Invitational
The Brahmas were at it again, as they competed in the Southside ISD Invitational. In total, the team recorded 23 personal records for a 3-mile course!
The Varsity Girls competed first, taking 8th out of 23 total teams in the division. Clenching the 1st spot for the Brahmas, was co-captain Leslie Munoz, clocking in at 19:50. Brooke Veltman finished second, in 20:17; Finishing 3rd for the team was Aimee Quan in 20:25; Not far behind, were co-captain Mia Macedo in 20:34 and Rylee Cardon in 20:37.
Following the Varsity Girls' race, was the Varsity Boys' division. The team took the number 20 spot out of 25 total teams in the division. The top 5 finishers, all realized a personal record for their 3-mile race!! Junior, Josh Castellanos finish first with at a time of 16:26. Amir Abidi was the second runner to cross the line for the Brahmas in 17:23. Cannon Barry and Jesse Garcia broke the finish line within a second of each other, posting 17:37 and 17:38, respectively. Senior, Brandon Ciaschini was the 5th runner for the team, registering 18:59 for the race.
Special recognition also goes out to the JV Girls team, who placed 6th out of 27 total teams in the division. Larissa Dretke shattered her personal record by over 2 minutes, running a 22:28. Freshman Elizabeth Colin's personal record time of 23:01, was good enough to post 2nd for the team. Hannah Anderson was third with 23:23. Marcela Chapa was 4th with 25:03, and Arianna Acosta finished in the 5th spot, in 25:20.
The Brahmas competed extremely well, and made a strong showing, as they head into the District Meet, Saturday, 10/13. The meet will be held at the North East Sports Park.The schedule of events is as follows:

Varsity Cross Country Takes on the Islander Splash
The Varsity Cross Country teams took their talents to Corpus Christi to run in the Islander Splash. The meet is hosted on the Texas A&M Corpus Christi campus. The Varsity Girls ran in the “Gold” race, made up of many of the top runners around the state. Of the 37 teams in the division, the girls placed 21st.
Brooke Veltman was the top finisher for the team, running a superb race, in spite of losing one shoe halfway through the race, and losing the other during the last ¾ of the race! Mia Macedo was second finisher for the Brahmas, followed closely by Arden Schweninger, Aimee Quan, Rylee Cardon, and Alexandra Jauregui. The girls did a fantastic job.
For the Varsity Boys, Jr. Josh Castellanos was the sole Brahma running in the Boys Gold division. Josh ran an astonishing race, crossing the line #87 of 217 runners! The remaining Varsity Boys’ Team raced in the Large HS Division. Newcomer, Jesse Garcia led the charge, crossing the line first. Cannon Barry and Amir Abidi finished second and third, respectively, for the team. Seniors, Brandon Ciaschini and Ethyn Dominguez finished within an eye blink of each other. John Lopez and Trenton Workman rounded out the team finish.
The entire team raced well, and made a great showing for MacArthur.
Northside ISD Invitational Results
Brahma Cross Country kicked off bright and early on Saturday morning for the NISD Invitational. The Varsity Girls ran a fantastic race, finishing 4th of 21 total teams, entered in the division! The girls truly embodied the notion of a Brahma stampede, as they ran as a group, racing strong the entire three-mile course. Captain Leslie Munoz, was the first finisher for the MacArthur squad, in a personal best time of 20:41. Arden Schweninger, was Mac’s second finisher, also with a personal best of 20:47. Brooke Veltman ( 20:52), Mia Macedo (20:55), and Aimee Quan (20:57), all rounded out the top five finishers, and ALL also ran personal best times! Rylee Cardon, is a Cross Country newcomer. In her debut meet, Rylee ran a 21:24, which is the fastest opening meet time of any MacArthur Cross Country female in the past eight years!
The Brahma Boys took the 13th spot for the meet. Joshua Castellanos ran in the top of the group for the majority of the race, and crossed the line first for the team, with a very respectable early-season time of 17:45. Amir Abidi and Cannon Barry crossed in second and third, with times of 19:04 and 19:24, respectively. Trenton Workman was 4th for the team, with a time of 20:16, followed closely by teammate, Brandon Ciaschini (20:48). Captain, John Lopez finished for the team in 21:03.
Special mention also goes out to the JV Girls’ team who finished 7th of 25 total teams, entered in the division! Alexandra Jauregui finished in the top 10 of the race, finishing 6th of 176 runners!
The entire Cross Country team did a phenomenal job! Next week, all four divisions will race at the old Verizon Amphitheater, for the FEAST Invitational. Go Brahmas!
The Cross Country team headed to Lockhart for the 31st Annual Hippensteel Invitational. The meet saw a record-breaking 1108 total athletes in attendance! The 1.86 mile City Park course, complete with pond, was the perfect early season race.
The Varsity Girls finished 11th overall, as a team. Sophomore, Brooke Veltman was the top finisher, with a time of 12:48. Teammates Mia Macedo (12:52); Arden Schweninger (13:02); Aimee Quan (13:12); and Leslie Munoz (13:26) all joined together to deliver a strong race for the Brahmas.
The Varsity Boys stamped a 15th place for the overall team standings. Jr., Josh Castellanos was the front-runner with a time of 10:24. Cannon Barry and Amir Abidi battled together to the line in 11:40. Newcomer, Trenton Workman crosses
The line 4th for the Brahmas in 12:05, with Captain, Ethyn Dominguez hot on his heels at 12:06. Captain, John Lopez rounded out th team finish in 12:13.
Next week, the Brahmas head to Alamo Golf Club to race in the Northside ISD Invitational
We are here for yet another season! Below, are the results from our NEISD meet.
On what was an unbelievably hot day, the Brahma Cross Country team managed to bring the fire this past Friday evening! In the season-opener, at North East Sports Park, NEISD hosted a 3-mile course, which was ultimately bumped down to 2 miles due to the heat. The Brahma ladies set the course ablaze, placing 7th of 31 teams! Leading the way was Jr., Leslie Munoz with a time of 14:51. Crossing the line in the #2 spot was Jr. Mia Macedo--15:02; adding to the overall team score were teammates, Soph. Brooke Veltman—15:14; Soph. Aimee Quan—15:26; Fr. Arden Schweninger—15:27; and Sr. Fatima Flores 17:02.
The Varsity Boys faced a tough field, but managed to pull off the 17th spot, out of 31 teams. Clearing the path, and finishing first for the team, was Jr. Josh Castellanos—12:58, followed closely by Jr. Cannon Barry—14:00 and Sr. John Lopez—14:38. Rounding out the team score were Sr. John “Ethyn” Dominguez—14:50; and Fr. Trenton Workman—15:33.
Both teams competed extremely well! The Brahmas will be headed to Lockhart City Park to tackle a very fast 1.86 mile course, on Saturday, Aug. 25th.
